Terminology - J


Job

Term variously used to indicate a specific task or activity to be performed or to denote a defined project. (ACE)
or
A facility to be build, or, from a contractor's point of view, a contract to be undertaken. (ACE)

Job (associated with computers)

A specified group of related tasks prescribed in a simulation exercise (a run) for a computer. See RUN. (FLUOR)

Job Card

Printed card or computer generated document authorising specific element of site work to be carried out in accordance with stated schedule and budget data. (ACE)

Job Cost Unit

A separately identified expenditure which consists of a single order (or contract). (ACE)

Job Costing

A method of summarising the expenditure on individual orders or contracts which are separately identifiable during the process of manufacture or construction. (ACE)

Job Ledger

A book of accounts wherein an accountant makes entries of equipment, labour, freight and tax costs to summarise the total cost of each contract separately. (ACE)

Job Order Cost

The segregation and accumulation of the expense of executing a specific project, item of work or a group of items. (ACE)

Judgement

Recorded over-view in respect of reported cost, progress or other performance data. (ACE)
