NET Profit
Earnings after all operating expenses have been deducted from operating revenues over a given time period. (ACE)
NET Profit
Earnings after all operating expenses (cash or accrued non-cash) have been deducted from NET operating revenues for a given time period. (ACE)
or
Earnings after all operating expenses (cash or accrued non-cash) have been deducted from net operating revenues for a given time period. (FLUOR)
NET Profit, Per Cent of Sales
The marginal ratio of annual surplus income, relative to total sales for a representative year of capacity operations. An incomplete measure of profitability, but a useful guidepost for comparing similar products and companies. (ACE)
NET Profit, Percent of Sales (Profit Margin)
The ratio of annual profits to total sales for a representative year of capacity operations. An incomplete measure of profitability, but a useful guidepost for comparing similar products and companies. (FLUOR)
Network
A representation of project activities and/or events and their interrelationships and logic dependencies. (FLUOR)
or
System of resource measurement and control relative to a planned schedule. (ACE)
Network Analysis
A system of classified elements of productive resources, to measure and control variance in quantity, cost and time, relative to a planned budget. (ACE)
Network Planning Technique (NPT)
A group of techniques for the analysis, description, planning, and control of projects, considering the sequence and the logical interrelationships of all project activities. The group may include techniques concerned with time, resources, costs, and other influencing factors, e.g., uncertainties. (FLUOR)
Network Summarisation
A process of reducing detailed networks to a SUMMARY NETWORK for calculation and/or reporting purposes. (FLUOR)
Node
A connecting point of arrows in a network. In an ACTIVITY-ON-ARROW NETWORK, same as an event. In an ACTIVITY-ON-NODE NETWORK, same as an activity. (FLUOR)
Non Cash Expense
A manufacturing or overhead charge for accounting purposes which does not require outlay of funds of the same amount in the same year but which may result in a tax saving - e.g., depreciation (tax deductible), amortisation of good will (not deductible). (ACE)
Non-Analytic Analysis
Derivations of the consequences of the assertions about a system by means of sampling technique rather than by direct inference. Contrast with ANALYTIC ANALYSIS. (FLUOR)
Non-Process Equipment
The part of auxiliary service facilities associated with a productive plant, such as utilities, work, shops, storage, etc. when not merely buildings e.g., tanks. (ACE)
or
The part of AUXILIARY FACILITIES (q.v.) to which the word "equipment" can be applied. Includes utilities, shops, storage tanks and bins. (FLUOR)
Non-Productive Labour
The man-power which cannot be directly charged to the cost of a product but can be apportioned as an overhead expense. (ACE)
Non-Productive Overtime
Premium payment for indirect labour, employed, after normal working hours. (ACE.)
Non-productive Time
Paid labour time with no productive output, such as meal time, walk time, lost time, etc. (ACE)
Norm
Standard cost or man-hour rate for specific task. (ACE)
Norm Cost
Cost derived from established cost norms. (ACE)
Norm Hours
Man-hours derived from established man-hour norms. (ACE)
Normal Cost
An expense which is normally incurred at a given level of output under the conditions at which that level of output is normally attained. (ACE)
or
The cost associated with the normal duration (i.e. normal time) of an activity or project. It is usually used in defining the cost curve. (FLUOR)
Normal Hours
Man-hours expended during a normal day or week, excluding overtime. (ACE)
Normal Standard
The average measured performance which it is anticipated can be attained over a future period of time, preferably long enough to cover one trade cycle. (ACE)
Normal Time
Time worked before overtime payment. (ACE)
or
The (assumed) longest acceptable duration of an activity or project normally used in defining the cost curve. (FLUOR)
Earnings after all operating expenses have been deducted from operating revenues over a given time period. (ACE)
